Ways Process Servers Find Information on Social Media

Private process servers use a variety of tools and information sources to track down individuals who need to be served with legal papers. A good private process server will use all of the tools at their disposal, and that includes social media. Here are some of the ways that social media can help private process servers locate individuals to be served.

Current Location

While social media doesn’t tell you exactly where someone lives, most profiles show at least the city and state of the individual. Although not everyone updates this information immediately when it changes, it does give the process server a place to start looking. For example, if someone lived in Daytona Beach and moved but you don’t know where, you can often learn from their profile what city they moved to.

Current Employer

Papers can be served at an individual’s place of employment, if you know where it is and when to find them there. Most people have their employer listed on their social media profiles. If the individual to be served keeps this information up to date, it gives the process server a place to start in finding the individual at their job.

Known Allies

Social media can also give clues as to when and where an individual can be found. If they belong to any public groups that have physical meetings, or if they are part of an organization that meets regularly, the individual may be served at these locations as well.
